Online Fitness Coaching: Your Questions Answered

11 October 2025

As both an in-person and remote fitness coach, I would recommend online coaching to anyone who needs the flexibility of working out at any time of the day. I would also recommend it if you enjoy working out on your own in the gym, but could benefit from guidance to keep you on track. This will allow you to do workouts tailored to your goals, and to help with overall fitness and nutrition.

The following Q&A answers your questions about online fitness coaching.

BenefitS & Personalisation

What are the main benefits of online fitness coaching compared to in-person training?

The main benefit is timing flexibility. We offer a consultation style of coaching that fits around your schedule. We can have weekly video consultations to discuss anything from your programme and nutrition to pain management. Our experience with clients, from beginners to elite athletes, has shown us that training is a challenge to fit in with busy lives. We provide realistic and flexible support to help you stay on track and get the most out of your training.

How is progress tracked and measured in an online coaching program?

We provide all the necessary programming and monitoring sheets to help you track your progress. We'll monitor this remotely and discuss it during our weekly video consultations. We'll also decide on key metrics to track each week to ensure you get objective feedback on your progress and stay accountable.

Are the workouts personalised to my needs and fitness level?

Yes, we work closely with you to ensure every programme is a perfect match for your needs. We can design training to gently introduce a beginner to exercise or provide specifically periodised training to push more experienced athletes.

How do online coaches ensure proper form and technique?

We provide instructional video links, a video library app, and video guidance via our weekly meetings. We will make sure to thoughtfully and safely match the appropriate exercises to you as an individual.

LOGISTICS & COMMUNICATION

What kind of equipment will I need for online workouts?

We can help you decide based on the type of training you want to do. We can design programmes that require almost no equipment, through a good home equipment setup, all the way to a full gym programme for a regular gym-goer.

How often will I communicate with my online coach?

We'll have a 15-minute weekly video consultation, and you can also reach us via text, WhatsApp, or email for follow-up information.

What platforms or apps are typically used for sessions and feedback?

We use Google Meet for our weekly video calls and keep secure records to monitor your training. We also use a video library app or can film a specific exercise to send you relevant tuition.

How flexible is the scheduling for the weekly video consultation?

Very flexible. We can fit your appointment in at the most optimal time for you, around your commitments and our other in-person appointments.

What happens if I need to adjust my program or take a break?

We can adjust your programme at any time. Our memberships are on a monthly rolling basis, so if you need to take a break, just let us know.

SUPPORT & ACCOUNTABILITY

Can online coaches help with nutrition and meal planning as well?

Absolutely. We provide nutrition advice and planning to complement your training.

What kind of support and motivation can I expect from an online coach?

We will always provide encouragement and advice backed by objective analysis of your training. Each week, when we check in, we'll provide all the guidance you need to stay focused on your training and next steps.

Are online coaching programs suitable for beginners?

Our programmes and coaching are suitable for all levels. Because we take a weekly consultation approach rather than a one-size-fits-all exercise class, our coaching is so bespoke that it's often particularly suitable for beginners.

How do I stay accountable while training remotely?

You will stay accountable with a weekly face-to-face video call where we will monitor the homework and targets we have set for you.

Often when someone has orthopaedic surgery planned, they will have been told that they need to strength train before surgery. This is common for knee surgery, including a knee replacement, ACL reconstruction or meniscal surgery. These surgeries may be required for numerous reasons including sports injuries, arthritis, avascular necrosis and more. I have written a guest blog for orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Vipin Asopa, in where I explain more about strength and conditioning before and after surgery. You can read the blog on Mr Asopa's website here:

What is progressive overload? In order to increase your performance in the gym, there are many benefits of applying the idea of progressive overload to your workout. This is where you gradually increase the weight you're using or your training volume - for example the number of reps you do.
